Mary RANDS lookup
« on: Monday 06 June 11 08:31 BST (UK) »
I have Mathew ADAMS and Mary RANDS marriage on 11 Sep 1701 at Furtho, Northampton,  from the IGI, no source information.  I also have the same couple's marriage on the same day at Thornborough, Buckinghamshire, so I'm kind of confused as to which one is correct.  I would like to order their marriage certificate on-line but unsure where to do this.  I have other certificates I would like to order as well, within this time frame.
I also think  that the birth of Mary RANDS could be c1681 at Cosgrove.  I have no further information on her.  Can someone help me with that please?

With thanks.

Civil Registration in England started on 1st July 1837.
That's when certificates started to be issued - so you are not going to find any marriage certificates for the 1700's.  :(

What you may be able to find is the original parish register entry - but you need to know which parish to look up.

Not all parish registers are online yet - but many local Family History Societies have extracts available you can purchase.

Hi
Certificates as such do not exist until after 1837 when civil registration was introduced.  Before that the entry in the church register is all you can get.  Copies of that can be obtained from the local record office usually or you can order that particular parish on film to search at your nearest LDS family history centre.
Are both the marriage entries you looked at "extracted"?    Anything that is member submitted should be treated with caution.

Hi All.

Laurette on the Northants Marriage Index the marriage is noted.

Furtho P.C.
11-Sep 1701

Matthew ADAMS to Mary RANDS

It would be correct.

Thanks to all for your replies.  Sorry for the confusion with my request as I meant to say Parish Records in lieu of Certificates.  I think I had a senior moment.
Sandy, thank you for the confirmation.  Can you please advise what "P.C." stands for?  I'm still trying to familiarise myself with the names around the Pottersbury Registration District as it appears that is where my ancestors lived.  Is that what it stands for - Pottersbury County?
Regards
Laurette

Sorry Laurette.

P.C. simply meant Parish Church.

Must remember not to abbreviate.  :)

Thanks Sandy.  You've previously helped me find my Carvel links at Hartwell which I am very grateful for;  I wonder if you could help me with Mary Rand(s).  I'm aware of the IGI site where there's no source information available, but would you mind having a look to see if there's a baptism for Mary RAND on 10 Nov 1681 Brackley, parents Conway RAND and Mary HARRIS.  Their marriage is 15 Jun 1678 Hinton In The Hedges.  Another baptism for Male RAND, 21 Dec 1685 Brackley.  I'm working off a map of Northampton and can see that the areas of interest are quite close to each other ie Hartwell, Ashton, Furtho, Cosgrove, Silverstone, and now the most recent two.  I also found on the IGI (no source), of a Matthew ADAMS c1679 Furtho, parents Mr & Mrs Adams.  If all come up negative, at least I gave it a go. :P
Can you please tell me which Record Office I would be able to order these documents from?
Many thanks
Laurette

Hi Laurette.

I am afraid the Northants Baptisms Indexes only start at 1700.

Therefore I can only look at those at home.

If you do not mind waiting awhile and no one else offers I
maybe able to look at the original P.R.'s.

Northamptonshire Record Office would be the area covering all the
areas you are researching.

If you look under my "Useful Northants links" the Record Office is noted.

Other than that you could order the films in at your nearest Latter
Day Saints Centre.

Hi Sandy
Please don't go to any trouble as I hadn't realised that the indexes started at 1700.  I'll contact the Northamptonshire Record Office and see how I go with that.  Also I'll look up to see where the closest LDS Centre is as I only moved here a few months ago.  Thanks for the help you've given me.

Best wishes

Laurette
