Anntenit ??- completed
« on: Monday 06 June 11 19:58 BST (UK) »
Hi can anyone tell me where Anntenit is in Ireland or if there is even such a place? I could well have been mispelt on the census and i've tried googling it. Any idea what it should be?
Thanks

Any surname and date to go with it?

See www.thecore.com/seanruad to search for townlands and parishes in Ireland.

Thankyou I will have a look at that.
Here is the census:
1851, 22 Crosshall Street Liverpool
FOX John Head Married M 35 1816 Corn Labourer Ireland
FOX, Catherine Wife Married F 32 1819 Ireland
FOX, Margaret Daughter Unmarried F 5 1846 Scholar Ireland
FOX Mary Jane Daughter Unmarried F 0 (8 MOS) 1851 Liverpool Lancashire
AGNES, Robert Son Unmarried M 14 1837 Liverpool Lancashire
MCLENEGHA Rose Mother Widow F 58 1793 Anntenit Ireland

I think it is all a bit of a muddle as I think Robert was Agnew not Agnes (Catherine's maiden name or she was married before)
Also I think Rose could be McLaughlin

Help neede please  ???

It's annuitant (under occupation) rather than the name of a place in Ireland- perhaps you've been looking at a transcript rather than the original record-

Oh I see!! No wonder I couldn't find such a place haha. So Rose could have been born anywhere in Ireland which doesn't help especially without knowing her proper surname!
Could anyone give me any further help on this please? John & Catherine went on to have another daughter, Ann (Annie/Hannah) Fox who was my great great grandmother.  :)

The 1911 English census** seems to be fairly good at listing a more exact place of birth than 'Ireland' or just the county according to what many people have found. If daughter Margaret (born c1846 Ireland) is alive in 1911 you might get a placename to use for searching in Irish records.
Until then you're probably stuck- you need to know both the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland) to see if any church records survive.

Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.

** we aren't allowed to do lookups for 1911 English census but the index is free to search and there are lots of search hints here-
