Where is Conna?
« on: Thursday 09 June 11 10:21 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please tell me exactly where the parish of Conna is?    I have ancestors from Cork who now appear to have been born in this parish, whose boundaries alleged floated between Cork and Waterford.    I'm wondering what towns, if any, were within this area.   Thanks.

I cant find a civil or RC parish named Conna in Co. Waterford....
you can see a map of the RC parishes at this : link (Irish Times)

and one of the Civil parishes at this link

You can also search (civil) parishes and townlands on the townland database at : www.thecore.com/seanruad

it is an RC parish in East Co. Cork - link  and on an east Cork parish map map

click the link at the bottom of the page to see the civil parishes included, click on the civil parish names to see a list of townlands.

All the parishes seem to be in Co. Cork.. but some are on the border with Co. Waterford.

Thank you very much Shane., very handy links.    I can see it close to the border all right.    I'm just wondering why my ggrandmother says on two censuses that she was born in  County Waterford.    We have her baptisim cert saying Conna.     Still, it's all news to me - until two hours ago, I thought she was born on Little Island!

On paper all of the parish was on Cork, but I dont know how strict the parish boundaries were..

Do you have a townland name on the baptism ?
