Looking at www.cornwall-opc-database.org throws up this possibility?

Date of Baptism: 18th August 1816
Parish: Perranzabuloe
Name:  James KERNICK
Father:  John, Miner
Mother:  Ann
Residence:  Cocks

This website is very good if you have Cornish ancestors!

Thanks for your help...I had used the site (one of my favourites for the Cornish ancestors) and found that James but as the information recorded in Oz has him born in the April 1822 I had had to discount it.

since my post I have found 1851 cenus has him born in Tintagel, his obit notice in the South Australian newspaper has him bornTrevena... book on families re the Slate industry has him born in Treknow
his marriage was in St Teath
I have done the search and found Tintagel and Trevena almost the same place and not far from the parish of St Teath but I think that Perranzabuloe may be a a lot further away that they seemed to travel and
I also found a James Kernick aged 15 Slate Cutter in 1841 census with a Thomas Tucker in Tintagel but forget did they round the ages up or down on the 1841 census?  James brother-in-law is a "Tucker"

So I am still looking?

 ??? ???

They rounded down - usually!

Someone marked as age 15 could well be as old as 19.

Hi Cheran,

You may have seen this family in 1841

HO107/140/15 Folio 18  Page 17
Trevillick
Tintagel

John is quite a bit older than Jane.

I suspect they are James family, although I can't find his baptism, I do note a gap between 1820 and 1825  ;)

John KERNICK sojourner = Jenny SMITH 5 May 1812 at Tintagel

Baptisms at Tintagel

Mary 31 Jan 1813 Parents John and Jane
Richard 16 May 1814 parents John and Jane
Ann 19 Feb 1816 Parents John and Jane
Jenney 18 Oct 1818 Parents John and Jane
Elizabeth 7 May 1820 parents John and Jane
Sarah 11 Sep 1825 parents John and Ginney
Christina 4 May 1828 parents John and Jane
Sabina  16 May 1830 parents John and Jane
Elizabeth 13 May 1832 Parents John and Jane
Selina 25 Sep 1836 Parents John and Jane

(The youngest child in the 1841 census was Elizabeth's daughter)

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi again Cheran,

John died in 1852, Jane died in 1868.

Do you have James marriage cert? If not I feel it would be most helpful to purchase a copy. This John was a blacksmith, son Richard was a blacksmith. Fathers details and witnesses should help confirm if this is his family

Richards marriage

There are a some of the daughters marriages on the OPC site also

Ann married a quarryman

Mary married a labourer

Elizabeth married a servant

Kris

Looking for a birth I found John born 1st April 1771 St Teath parents John Kernick and Joan Kellow marr 15 July 1770 St Teath

I also found a John Kernick married to an Elizabeth Carew with 3 children so far Joan, William and John... bap St Teath...  as John was a sojourner could he have come from St Teath?

Could this be the first marriage of John married to Jenny given the age difference.
