Anne & Thomas Davies of Pencarreg/Lampeter
« on: Friday 10 June 11 09:23 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find a marriage record of Anne (no surname) b.c 1815 in Pencarreg and Thomas Davies b.c 1821 in Lampeter. I've also been unable to find them in the 1841 census, although they did turn up in Lampeter in 1851. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there

Very little to go on here.
Hard one to resolve as there are  7 Thomas Davies born 1821 in Lamberter lol.  Not one of them are married in 1841 so just wondered if you knew if he had married Ann by that time or were you guessing?
When you say you found them on the 1851 census is it the Thomas who
is a Labourer with Ann and three children called Ann, David and John?

I then found the following
Thomas Davies married Ann Jones October 1842 Lampeter
Thomas Davies              Ann James  July       1843    "
Most of the other Thomas Davies married in 1841   but not to anyone called Ann.

Most the Thomas Davies in 1841 are living on farms or are labouring on farms and only one who has a Dad who is a Carpenter. There seems to be different parts of Lampeter, do you know which area he came from then I might be able to see which of these 7 lads is the one you are looking for?

Hope this helps a little

I doubt they were married in 1841 as the oldest child in 1851 is 6. Do you have the birth cert of any of the children to get their mother's maiden name? Pity they favoured run of the mill first names for the children, but there's only one at the right time for daughter Jane

Hi Sandymc, & Osprey,
I was taking a guess that they may have been married in 1841. As the wife came from Pencarreg, I thought that she may have been married there, even though it's not far from Lampeter. That was the correct family in the 1851 census, and I was interested in the first daughter, Anne. I'll send for her birth certificate, as there are a few Anne Davies' born in Lampeter around that time. I believe she's the mother of my great-grandfather, Rees, who I've been trying to trace for years. Thanks to you, Osprey, I believe I found him through you're suggestion some time back living with his grandmother in 1871. But I only knew him as Rees Morgans. But I've found now, that an Anne Davies married a Morgan Rees in 1872, so I believe that's where the name came from, as he gave his fathers name as Rees Morgan, farmer, on his marriage certificate. So, at last, I may be getting somewhere. Thanks to both of you.
Ken
