Alice O' Reilly
« on: Friday 10 June 11 09:26 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction of where to get information please.

I am looking for any information on parents or siblings of Alice O'REILLY. I think she was born around 1790. She married a James KAVANAGH  on the 12/10/1810 and they lived in  Enniscorthy

They had  two children that I know of: Eleanor born 24/4/1812, John born 5/6/1816

I don't know if Alice was born in Enniscorthy or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

     Kindest regards,

     Nora

Dont know if this information is of benefit griffith valuation St Mary's  - Enniscorthy gives a James Kavanagh living in Irish St. If you then look at the 1901 census there is two Kavanagh families living in Irish St- including a Alice Kavanagh living with the Keegan family. George Keegan was very involved in the 1916 rising in Enniscorthy as result his family well documented maybe this might worth a look. According to the records Alice Kavanagh was born in 19 June 1845 her father was John Kavanagh and her mother Joanna Keegan.

Hello Tomahurra,

Thank you for your quick reply to my post. These are my ancestors but what I was looking for were the parents and siblings of their ancestor Alice O' Reilly. I haven't had any luck in finding these yet.

        Kindest regards,

        Nora

Hi Nora,

First well done in tracing family back so far. I know how frustrating it is go so far and then hit a brick wall. I have found taking a roundabout method research sometimes helps.  If you look at the census returns for 1901 shows only 43 O'Reilly for the whole County. One family caught my attention was Myles O Reilly Newtownbarry professon Cooper.

Have you contacted the Cathedral re their records maybe if you check witness for wedding or sponsors for Baptismals might give clues

Also if you have time check Cantwells memorials of the dead for Co Wexford easy to use as it has a name index - copies in all Wexford Libraries

Best of Luck

Hello Mairead,

Thank you for your reply to my post and for the two links. I have Alice and John's wedding details from St. Aidan's Cathedral but unfortunately it does not give parents names so I am stuck there. I was hoping there may have been some other way of tracing her parents. I know records of this era are very scarce re:personal information. Are there any census records for Enniscorthy for that time frame (early 1800s)?

As I live in England I don't have a hope of getting to a library in Wexford to view Cantwell's Memorials of the dead. So I am limited in what I can do from here.

Thank you for your efforts on my behalf. It is very much appreciated.

Kindest regards,

Nora

Hello Mairead,

Thank you so much for your offer of help. That would be wonderful. My ancestors lived in Irish Street and if it's o.k. I will send you a p.m if you wish re:surnames as there are family still living in Enniscorthy but none that would know of Alice O'Reilly. I do know she was buried in Templeshannon churchyard with her husband and family.

Kindest regards,

Nora
