9. Mary Ella b. 3-14-1870 in OH
10. Samuel b.1872 in OH he lived in Washington Court House in OH

Patrick re-married after Margaret May McVey died (probably in child birth to Samuel) to Jean Timmons (married in 1875) they had 2 kids together.
1.  John b. 8-23-1875 d. 9-16-1966.  He was a bachelor (never married) and when he died, all his money went to charity. Lived in and died in Staunton OH
2. Cora b.1877 lived in Springfield OH and married a guy with the last name Irons.

Patrick is buried next to his first wife in Evans Cemetery on Snowhill Road in Sabina Ohio.

Hello Miranda,

I'd better answer those three questions that you asked. Unless someone else is researching the Sheridan family of Cavan some serious research will need to be done to find Patrick's parents. It is more likely that he was born in a townland rather than a town and he was not born in a city as there were none at that time in Co. Cavan. The answer to your final question is there is not a Census showing Patrick's name. There are Census Substitutes, such as Griffiths Valuation of Ireland, but these only show the head of the household.

This site is Griffiths Valuation Cavan. 1856 - 57 http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php
You only need to enter Sheridan and Cavan to see all the Sheridans (including several Patricks) in the county.

The best thing you can do as I see it (others may have a different idea) is hope that Patrick's father was still alive and remaining in Ireland. You may have a lengthy search. Initially I would suggest that you check for the townland with the highest number of Sheridans. Put the townlands in a 1 - 20 (or whatever) order. Once you have done that check all Patricks and anyone with the same Christian name as any of Patrick's sons in that townland. It is a case of trying to establish the townland where born so that the Church records may then be checked.  I have already checked for McVey, McVea and McVeigh in Co. Cavan and got a Nil result.

http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm Here's another extremely useful item for the genealogist. Irish Ancestry Surname Search. I again checked both names. During the period of Griffiths Valuation 1848 - 64 there were 128 McVeys in Ireland as against 358 Sheridans in Co. Cavan alone. You now have an easier option and that is to check the McVeys starting in the nearest counties to Cavan (with the largest number of McVeys). Margaret was just over 16 when she had her first child. It is possible both she and her parents emigrated during the Famine Years and on the other hand she and some of her siblings may have emigrated leaving her parents and younger siblings in Ireland.

I have no doubt you will require further assistance and look forward to seeing your next posting.

Best Wishes,  Christopher

I see one of your family members ended up in Springfield OH.  There's a fair amount of information on the www which may interest you:

You might try the Clark Co OH obituary website:
http://guardian.ccpl.lib.oh.us/obits/

0r Georgeann Malowney's website: http://www.irishgenealogy.com
and I believe there is also a Clark County, OH historical society.

Cheers,
