Tapa cloth conservation and preservation
« on: Wednesday 15 June 11 21:01 BST (UK) »
Anyone have helpful hints on restoring and preserving tapa cloth. Have been told they have been in the family for over 100 years.

Thanks ... any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi yn9man :)

How lovely to have some old tapa and good on you for wanting to know how to look after them.
The Bishop Museum (in Hawaii) has produced a guide to caring for Tapa which is really good:
http://www.bishopmuseum.org/research/pdfs/cnsv-tapa.pdf

Hopefully that should give you all the info you need.

Cheers

PrueM -

Thanks for your reply. The Bishop Museum in Hawaii .... sounds like a personal visit would be better than a virtual visit ... ;)

What the keeper of family history and artifacts must go thru ...
