Johnston Family - Ireland
« on: Friday 17 June 11 19:06 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am researching the Johnston family.

Robert Johnston B: abt 1960 in Ireland.  He married a lady called Sarah(sorry no maiden name) also born in Ireland abt 1867.  They had 4 children, 3 girls & 1 boy.  Margaret Johnston B:1889 in Ireland & then the rest of her siblings were born in Liverpool from 1892 - 1899.

Therefore they must have come to UK between 1889-1892.

Just wondering if anyone can help or give any ideas on how to move forward?

Many thanks

Since you dont have a location for the family or a maiden surname for Sarah at this stage, I think the best plan would be to order a birth cert for one of the children born in Liverpool. This detail might help locate a marriage for Robert and Sarah if her surname is not too common.

Another possible line of research would be to recheck any English census returns to see if a county of birth is ever listed for Robert, Sarah or Margaret.

every second woman getting married around that time is called Sarah!
However there's a possible match in Oct/Dec 1888 in Lurgan

Robert Johnston and Sarah Jane Whiteside 1.903

yes - I searched the marriages for Robert Johnston for 1886-1888 (just prior to that first birth).
Then I looked for a matching Sarah. (Year/quarter, district, volume and page have to match).

there may be other matches, so go for that birth cert as Shane suggested
