British Vital Records Index 4.0 trouble opening cd's
« on: Saturday 18 June 11 21:59 BST (UK) »
I have loaded the viewer 4.0. Then disk 1. I type in the names etc and it asks me to insert disk 4. It wont open it. I click on the click here when cd inserted and nothing happens. I have tried waiting 10mins and trying again. Still nothing. Could someone give me some advise.
Many thanks Sue

Sounds as if the update to viewer 4.02 has not automatically run, open Disk 1 open the UPDATE folder and run - update.exe
That should fix the problem.
Cheers

If there is not a  problem with the drive reading any other CD's it is possible that the discs have been damaged or become unreadable.

Try giving the discs a good polish with a quality soft cloth

Are you trying to open Disk One before running the viewer software or after running the viewer software?

Occasionally the update will not run from the viewer software and has to be installed outside the software.

Try accessing the disk from the "My Computer" icon.
Right click - open  on the CD icon it is named British BC 1
Right click - open on UPDATE
Double click update.exe file to run it and update the viewer software.

Cheers
