Finding CWGC records using google
« on: Tuesday 21 June 11 17:49 BST (UK) »
A chap has a theory that we should be able to find CWGC casualty records using internet search engines (ie during a general search for a name).  His idea is that the searchbots that build the search indexes will find all records if they are given links to the cemetery listings. http://www.purecollector.com/history/cwgc/

He has put a lot of effort into this - by creating pages linking to all the cemeteries - here is the one for France:

http://www.purecollector.com/history/cwgc/France.html

and for the Low Countries:

http://www.purecollector.com/history/cwgc/LowCountries.html

If nothing else it is a quicker route to the cemetery listings than the CWGC search engine - if it works as planned it will be a bonus. At the moment it's very hit and miss, google finds a lot of records, but nowhere near all of them.

As Rootsweb is obviously well scanned by the bots a link here won't hurt  ;).

Whoops!

Rootschat is also very well trawled by the bots.
