Richard Hards & Elizabeth Mitchell

Hi

The above couple married at Cuckfield 11th June 1782.Richard at the time states he was from Slaugham.

If any has access to Slaugham PRs could you please see if Richard was Baptised there & who Mum & Dad were.

I looked on SFHG & no joy.

If i have the right Elizabeth Mitchell,she was Baptised at Cuckfield 29th April 1764,Mum & Dad Thomas & Mary.This info came from Familyhistoryonline.

From the SMI i found a marriage for a Thomas Mitchell & Mary Upfield
at Fleet Prison 16 Sept 1753
Extra info Thomas from Crawley, vacgh  BSM & Mary from Crawley
I looked at the abbreviations on the SMI but could`nt find what vacgh
means & if someone could please explain to a Thicko why Thomas & Mary married at Fleet Prison  ,i would be really grateful

I also saw two other children to John "Hardes" as I looked through.  Mary on Oct 14 1758 and Sarah May 31 1765.  Well spaced so I may have missed some.

Oh dear,more questions

The only marriage i could find for a John & Elizabeth took place in Cuckfield 1777,John from Slaugham.

So was it have kids first get married later

Apparently....... Getting married at Fleet Prison in those days was like going to Gretna Green to get married today!!!!!

There was a Richard Hards in Slaugham living on lands called 'Scotland' and 'Hampshires' owned by John Henry Lintott esq according to the 1785 East Sussex Land Tax. (looking on google maps for Slaugham I can see a Scotland Farm next to a Hamshire Hill!).
Matthew Hard also lived in Slaugham at that time, a relative perhaps?
