During the first 3 decades of the 20th century, many of my ancestors emigrated to the land of opportunity, the United States of America. Most of them settled in the Detroit area, home of motor manufacturing.
They didn't all go out together, it's clear from the records that some family members went out, and then others followed. Although most intended to stay out there, which they did, others whose original intention had been to emigrate came back in due course to England, for one reason or another.
So that brings me to one of my ancestors, a single young lady, who went out to America in 1923 with her mother, brother and sister in law. They were joining other family members, and their intention as stated on the passenger list, was to make the USA their permanent home. All 4 eventually returned to the UK, but the first to do so was Lizzie, and the shipping records show that she was deported! She had been in the USA for 2 years.
I was wondering for what reasons a young lady would be deported back to England in 1925?
And if anyone knows if there are records and how they might be accessed?
