Married to Anne Crosby. They had a son called William Crosby Blackstaff (1819-1896)
AND

Dear Bob,

I too am struggling with the Blackstaffes as I'm helping a close family friend with her family tree. She is descended through Emma Blackstaff.

I'd like to suggest that the two William Blackstaffes that we both have are one and the same person and that William married twice, first to Anne then to Elizabeth. I currently believe that the evidence for this proposition lies in the 1841 census. Here I see William aged 45 with Elizabeth aged 26. Further, the children listed include Frederick Westwood Blackstaffe age 17, (Elizabeth would have been 9 at this time), Reubin (a family name and age 15), Robert (another family name and age 13) and Henry age 5 months (obviously a new baby to a new wife?).
Over the next ten years they have a further five children, but the 'gap' is still evident between Robert and Henry.
If this proposition is to be proved, I would like to find a death record for Anne, but I am working on the boundary of recording (around September 1837) and will have to try Ancestry, possibly FreeBMD and the LDS website, but all of these depend on whether or not the records exist online!
I'd like to hear what you think of this idea?

Hello,

I would be very grateful if anyone with any information about the Blackstaffe's could send me a message.

I came to the same conclusion that William married Ann and then Elizabeth later on. I found a burial record for a Nancy Blackstaffe that fits the right timing for her death. To add to this it was at the same church that some of the children were baptised at.

I am related to him via his son Frederic and his line and would be very interested to talk with any one else with a Blackstaffe connection.

Sorry I am not related but found a Bapt on FreeREG for;
MARTHA MATILDA Blackst(ua)ff 29 Dec 1839, St Paul Chapel, Birmingham
Birth 28 Dec 1839
Parents WILLIAM/ELIZABETH , Father a Glass Stainer
Abode Regent Place

BLACKSTAFF, MARTHA  MATILDA mothers maiden name ADDERLEY**
GRO Reference: 1840  M Quarter in BIRMINGHAM  Volume 16  Page 241

Her Death Reg same quarter sadly.

William/Elizabeth Marriage Reg was 1838 Kings Norton.

Yes I agree Nancy was likely buried 29 Jun 1832 Yardley age 32 soon after giving Birth to Henry who died age 8 mths in 1832.

Trish :)
