Thanks Lodger.  Clark and Armstrong don't ring any bells, unfortunately.  I wondered whether Robert might turn out to be the brother of 'my' William White.

In regard to Elizabeth T. Muirhead, I suspect it's an error and this should read Isabella T. Muirhead. According to Ard, she was buried Feb. 11, 1878. Is the burial near the Robert Douglas clan?
Isabella's infant daughter Elizabeth Douglas Muirhead also died in 1878, (MUIRHEAD ELIZABETH DOUGLAS, 0 (mother's ms HAMILTON) F 1878 628 / 244 CAMBUSNETHAN) so both mother and daughter died the same year - perhaps they were even buried at the same time and in the record the names of Isabella and Elizabeth were accidentally were conflated to create a single name!)

ELIZABETH D. MUIRHEAD, child, Wishaw,  aged 6 months.
Parents - David Muirhead & Isabella T. Hamilton.
Interred in the old churchyard on 30th July 1878.

I did see this entry but the mother's name I was looking for was Elizabeth, so I discounted it! Sorry.
Isabella was buried 11th February 1878, so she probably died during or shortly after the birth.

Teya,

I've spent the whole day reorganising the pictures I have for Cambusnethan churchyard, some were taken over 10 years ago and were scattered all over my p.c. in various files. I will be issuing a new, revised list very soon.
In the process today, I found this picture and can match it to a transcription made back in 1982.
you will see how time has eroded the inscription since then.

The transcription from 1982 reads -

"Erected by Robert Douglas to the memory of John Douglas his son who died 10th May 18(52) aged 1 month. Charlotte Brunt his spouse who died 28th March 1854 aged 25 years. Christina Douglas his daughter who died 4th April (1857) aged (7) years".

The details from the Plot Book (only from 1879).
In the South lair -
WILLIAM MUIRHEAD, aged 36 years. 11th May 1914.
JANE MUIRHEAD, aged 70 years. 26th March 1927.

Hi Lodger,

I believe the above Jane was Jane McPhail, wife of William Muirhead. Do you have anything relating to the McPhails (her parents Henry and Nancy nee Lafferty were both originally from Ireland but had their family in Wishaw; one son, George apparently married Isabella Wyper)?

Thanks!

Hi Ard, It seems you could be right, according to Scotlandspeople, she died in the Kelvin registration district of Glasgow, registered under both Muirhead and McPhail with her mms Rafferty, not Lafferty.
But that's close enough I would say?
I'll see if I can find anything about her parents in the Cambusnethan records.

Ard, here's what I found, it makes sad reading.

HENRY McPHAIL, Wishaw, aged 8 years.
Parents - Henry McPhail & Agnes Lafferty.
Interred in common ground, 22nd November 1862.

WILLIAM McPHAIL, Wishaw, aged 3 years.
Parents - Henry McPhail & Agnes Lafferty.
Interred in common ground, 3rd December 1862.

AGNES McPHAIL, housewife, Wishaw, aged 32 years, married.
Parents - William Lafferty & Margaret Blair.
Interred in common ground, 17th December 1862.

SARAH McPHAIL, Wishaw, aged 6 months.
Parents - George McPhail & Isabella Wyper.
Interred in common ground, 3rd October 1876.

HENRY McPHAIL, labourer, Wishaw, aged 57 years, widower.
Parents - Archibald McPhail & Margaret Crichton.
Interred in common ground, 30th March 1878.

MARION McPHAIL, Wishaw, aged 2 years.
Parents - George McPhail & Isabella Wyper.
Interred in E56, 25th November 1893.

ARCHIBALD McPHAIL, tailor, Wishaw, aged 33 years, married.
Parents - Henry McPhail & Nancy Lafferty.
Interred in E55, 7th August 1896.

ISABELLA W. McPHAIL, Wishaw, aged 1 year.
Parents - Matthew McPhail & Marion Ballantyne.
Interred in E56, 28th April 1900.

E55 & 56 must be a double plot, so it's all the one family.

It may be some consolation to know that little Henry, William and their mother Agnes who died within the space of 25 days of each other, are all interred in the same common grave, number 138.

I will go to the cemetery and check if there is a stone at E55 & 56.

That's totally them! Henry Sr. and "Nancy" (Agnes)'s son Archibald was married to my g-g-g aunt, Jane Frew Halliday (oops! Leggat), but died less than six years into their marriage. What an interesting web of relationships you are helping to weave together!
1862 must have been such a difficult year for the family. A similar occurrence happened on another branch of my tree where, in Yorkshire, when my great-grandmother was just 3, her 18-month-old brother died on the day the birth of the next, who followed seven days later and then their mother, less than three weeks after that.! It was consumption. I just can't imagine!
And yes, the 'Rafferty' is clearly a clerical error that occurred somewhere down the line.
It is the same family, little Isabella, son of Matthew and Sarah, was the granddaughter of George and Isabella sr.
Thanks again!
