I found and bought a box of glass slides at a carboot sale today, over 100 photos, a lot from Japan. Here are scans of two, they haven't scanned very well

How old do you reckon they'd be YT?

 - I've not seen coloured glass slides before - only the black and white ones - they are very interesting!

Can you tell by the age of the ship - if it is labelled Ancient and modern, how old is the modern do you think?

The ship looks like a combination of steam and sail doesn't it!   When was that happening? - I seem to remember my grandfather talking about those ships.  Wiki seems to indicate that they were around for quite a long time -  but ocean going steam/sail were later in the 19th century.  Think I've read that correctly  :-\

Can be no earlier than 1853, that is when the "black ships" forced Japan to open its borders to outside trade. Although the "fleet" comprised sailing and steam ships, I think they were side paddle driven. I think these are obviously later but am beginning to think they are still from the 1800s
