St.Helier lookup please - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 28 June 11 18:37 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the actual birth date and marriage details, date and wifes name for John William Cummings born 1877. His Father was Thomas Bolton Cummings and his Mother Mary Ann Osbourne.  Wifes name believed to be Catherine b. circa 1880.  thanks in anticipation, John.

www.guernsey-society.org.uk/donkipedia/index.php5?title=Baptism_notes

Click on above link. Then click on "10 Original Jersey Archive Transcription"

Select "Baptism" according to year of birth. Delivers a searchable pdf file

regards

Thanks for your reply, I had already checked the available lists, as suggested , but unfortunately 1875 to 1879 are not transcribed (missing), regards, John.

Looking at the 1891 the most likely candidate for John's wife would appear to be Catherine Dora Sullivan born St Helier in 1879 and living in St Saviour with parents William and Catherine.

I will be at the Jersey Archive tomorrow afternoon and will have a look for the marriage, marriages are not at present on-line.

The Jersey heritage site that I gave you before has baptisms for several of John's siblings but keep in mind that these on-line baptism records are only from the St Helier Town Church, there were at least 5 other C of E churches in and around St Helier. The register covering 1871 - 1879 is on the Heritage site.

There are quite a lot of references to this family on the site, the registration cards referred to for several of the family means that they stayed in Jersey during the German Occupation. These cards contain family details and usually a small black and white photograph.

Thanks again for your assistance but I cannot find any records in the 1871 to 1879 section of the birth and baptism tables; for years 1875 to 1879, it actually says, at the top of page one, these years are not transcribed.  Once again thank you for your invaluable assistance which is much appreciated, John.

John William Cummings and Catherine Dora Sullivan married at St Mary and St Peter's Roman Catholic Church (known locally as the Irish Church) on 17th August 1898.

He was 21 and a bachelor, he was born and lived in St Helier, his occupation was Sailmaker and his father was Thomas Bolton Cummings, also a Sailmaker.

She was 18 and a spinster, she was born in St Helier and lived in St Saviour, her occupation was Dressmaker and her father was William Sullivan, a Gardener.

The witnesses were Ethel Mary Le Seelleur and Samuel Philip Asplet.
