Ellen Hughes
« on: Saturday 02 July 11 05:08 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out information about Ellen Hughes from Armagh who migrated to Australia where she married Michael Joseph Barry from Tipperary.  She was born in 1844 and her parents were Cath Toonan and Arthur Hughes.  I've now come to a full stop - can't find anything about the boat she came to Australia on or anything about her parents apart from their names - can anyone help?

Hello
Possible sighting at Tynan Armagh

Elizabeth 19.5.1840 Arthur and Catherine Joner? gpts Elizabet Toner and Reid? McCardle.

Cath Hughes bapt 5.6.1842 d of Arthur Hughes and Cath Toonin?
gpst David Cubli? and Mary McCardle

Teresa 7.3.1847 d of Arthur and Cath  Toner? gpts Francis and Eliza Toner?

I can't see an Ellen but she would fit nicely in the middle.

There's a death for a Arthur Hughes 1870 in Victoria born 1821
and a Cath Hughes death Maryborough Victoria 1909 age 90 which may be them.

Hi, do you have a tree anywhere? Are you descended from Arthur? If so, have you or yours had dna done??
Do you sense the desperation in my questions??? Hahaha.
I really appreciate your reply.

Do you know which Parish/Area they were from?

There are 61 Parishes

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

Hi, no sorry, all I know is that his name was Arthur hughes, he was my gtgtgt grandfather. Never married the mother of his three sons hence no marriage cert, no census, disappeared.
Dna has narrowed it down somewhat and I do feel he went to new york, mid 1840s. Also feel he could have been close relative of monsignor John hughes. He died in New York and the dates fit. John hughes parent's were Patrick and margaret mckenna. But Arthur is not listed as brother he could be uncle.
Thanks for your reply, I'll keep at this.
