Have you seen this document?
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0e3p/

It shows that Caroline Nicholls died in 1851 (backed up by data in FreeBMD).....

There is an awful lot of family history in the Hook Norton area in this document.....really may help in your searches.....

There is a burial entry for William Clarke age 70 31 Mar 1851 Hook Norton but abode being Southrop which is nearby but also along Glos border area so it may be that direction to look for a marriage which I would put around 1805 when their first child appears in the Hook Norton regs:

1805 31 Mar Elizabeth d. William & Sarah
1808 26 Jan John s. William & Sarah

Couldn't see anything on OFHS CN02 covering Charlbury, Chastleton, Cornwell, Kingham, Little Rollright, Little Compton, Shipton Under Wychwood and Swerford.  (I restricted my search to marriages c. 1805).

Hi Debbie,Steph and MC
Many thanks for all your replies and also to the link its really good of you all, i had a feeling that the Nicholls tied in with the Cotswold Smiths at some point,I'm trying to link Caroline Clark in with my Clarks from hook norton, chippy and also Moreton in marsh and Broadway still trying to figure out who's who !my 4x grt Grandparents were William and Sarah Clark.Interestingly a while back whilst at Oxfordshire library i found many removal ,settlement and bastardy bonds for my Clarks with various members of the Smith family they seem to have kids as couples but not always marry not sure why?
Am i right in thinking that the 1891 census doesn't mention the Nicholls families first name?i was just curious to see if they tie in with the hook norton, great rollright Nicholls at all?
thanks again
