What the men are wearing was pretty much standard workwear over many decades, however the winged collars on some suggests an earliest date of 1890's but could be into the early 1900's.

Hi Lowther Castle,

Welcome to Rootschat, sorry Cakemagic, I was in such a hurry this morning that I forgot to say welcome to you too.

I hope that both of you have many happy hours on this brilliant website.

How nice that one of the workers has been identified

One of my ancestors, Joseph Grant Goodburn - was a joiner on the Lowther Estate until he was killed in a storm by a falling branch in 1903. The article was in the Westmorland Gazette. He had worked for the Lowther estate for most of his working life and I just wondered if he was one of the workmen on the photograph?
