Robert & Caroline Young, Dumbarton
« on: Wednesday 06 July 11 06:05 BST (UK) »
There is a Robert & Caroline Young in the 1881 census living in Dunbartonshire living with their two daughters Fanny b1876 and Caroline b1877. Caroline later married a Colin McIntyre and on his premature death remarried a James Campbell. Does anyone know what happened to Robert and Caroline their parents? or the history of her older sister Fanny? I would love to speak to to anyone with these people in their tree. Thanks

They're at the same address in 1901. All details the same as in 1891.
Caroline and Fanny are no longer at home. There is another child, Rachel, age 6. Henry is a Railway porter and Davina is a print field worker.

Hi

I think Fanny married a Henry Jardine in 1895 in Dumbarton and died in 1950 in Castleton Roxburghshire (from Scotlands People).

By 1901, she and her husband are in Kentish Town, St Pancras, London
RG13/156/137/39

Henry Jardine, 28, Railway shunter, b. Cumberland, Kirkandrews
Fanny, 25, b. Scotland
Caroline, 5, b. -do-
Mary, 3, b. Kirkandrews
Robert, 1, b. Scotland

By 1911, they are in Castleton, Roxburghshire, and have more children - James, 9; Henry, 8; Hannah, 4; William, 2. The last two being born in Castleton. James is down as being 'feeble minded from birth'. Fanny is down as being b. Dumbarton.

Um, the 1891 says Fanny was born in England.  :-\

Good finds gnu.  :)

I'm not sure how much NavanScot already knows about this family and what gaps they'd like filled in. Eg there are possibilities for marriages England for Robert and Caroline (assuming they married in her parish) - similar for births for Fanny and Caroline. :-\  But I'm not sure if any are correct or which area is more likely. NavanScot may be able to assist ...

I think that Caroline died in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire in 1925, aged 72 (other name Gray) and Robert died Bonhill in 1918, aged 71. Caroline is listed as m.s. Gray on Henry's (b. 1882) birth record. Robert and Caroline married in Aldershot , England on  Dec 22 1873.

Re Fanny's place of birth - it could well be England as she's down as b. England on the 1881 but on the 1911, in Roxburgh, it is down as Dumbarton. Probably she didn't know as she would have been quite young when they moved to Scotland.

Her other name is down as Young on the death index entry that I found in Castleton, 1950

Davina Married Thomas Landells. Henry, Robert and William all emigrated to Canada and joined the Canadian Army. Mary moved to Canonbie.
