1891 Census - Jenkins
« on: Saturday 09 July 11 11:04 BST (UK) »
Request lookup in 1891 census for Catherine Jenkins née Clements, born about 1816, in Aberystwyth or possibly in London.   She married William Jenkins, a tailor, in 1842 and in 1881 they were living in Queen Street, Aberystwyth with daughter Elizabeth, born about 1856, nephew David, born about 1865 and niece Catherine J., born about 1867.   She was widowed in 1889.

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, it's not the most helpful census

26 Queen St, RG12/4558 folio 106 pg 56
Cath Jenkins head widow 74
John son widower 35 tailor
Elizabeth dau 30
Wm nephew 13
Cath niece 10
S. E. nephew 11
T?/I? D. nephew 13
C. J. nephew 23
D Evans servant 14
all born Aberystwyth

Looks like niece & nephew were being used to mean relative of younger generation, instead of the way we use them now

1901 26 Queen St, RG13/5153 folio 82 pgs 48&49
John Jenkins head widower 47 tailor
William Joseph son 24 tailor
Thomas D son 22 b. tailor
Sarah E dau 20 dressmaker
Catherine H dau 19
Elizabeth aunt 45 domestic
all born Aberystwyth. Elizabeth shouldn't really be aunt, as she's not aunt to head of household, but sister?

Once again a difficult family to sort out.   I agree with your statements regarding nieces, nephews and aunt.   In 1891 it looks as if john's children are William, Catherine, S.E. (Sarah E. or C.) and Thomas David.   The C.J. age 23 is probably Catherine Jane whose parents I am unsure of and will post a separate request.

In 1901 they are there again and Elizabeth,I agree, is most likely John's sister.

Thanks again, Dave
