Marriage certificates only list name and occupation of fathers.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thats ok, I have an Ellen Llinton married ? Gracey date unkown but she has daughter Mary Jane Gracey  born before 1884. do you have free look ups for BMD'S in Ireland? most likely born in Tullycalliday Co Armagh Ireland. Then the marriage cetificate would have her father's name that would be a start?

Going by the WILL of Mary Jane [Linton] Johnson
Walsh's father was a William and he had brother Walsh who married Margaret ?she died 2.9.1845 Ireland
.1st Walsh had daughter Elizabeth born 1820 Armagh married 06/06/1849 James Prentice in Killylea church In 1850 they emigrated to Victoria Australia. the marriage has father as a William Linton. Her death in Victoria has parents unkown.
Problem is each family have all the males have children with names of William, Walsh, Elizabeth, Mary Jane. did yo get my private message?

"did yo get my private message?" Is this meant for Shay? if so, new members usually need 3 posts to use PM (Personal Message) system.

"do you have free look ups for BMD'S in Ireland?" the Irish civil registration index is online (free)- you need to search for bride and groom separately then cross-reference results for matching details needed to order the certificate. There are other pay-per-view/subscription sites but most of them have terms & conditions which do not allow us to ask for lookups although sometimes the free searches allowed do get quite a bit of information.

I've done a few searches for Ellen Linton's marriage but cannot find any marriage to 'Gracey'.

I just discovered your thread.  I believe I may be researching a related line.

My husband's great grandfather is Archibald Murray Sr., son of David and Mary Jane (Linton) Murray.  They named their youngest son John Linton.  I found the index for their marriage in Family Search - married 29 Jun 1854 in County Armagh.  Mary Jane's father is listed as Welsh Linton.  Living a few  doors down from David Murray in the 1901 census in Aughrafin (Ballymartrim, Armagh) is a Samuel Linton.  The census puts his birth year abt. 1841. I found Samuel's marriage record, he also wed in County Armagh to a Mary Jane Lawson on 07 Jun 1864.  His father's name is listed as Welsh Linton.  Samuel then names their first son, born in 1867, Welsh.

The Welsh Linton you have mentioned born in 1818, do you know his spouse or children's names?  Are Mary Jane and/or Samuel among them?  Thank you for your assistance.

Shay
Hi Im late to this thread but this is my line too. In fact - Ive Armagh Lintons on my maternal line everywhere - my grand father comes from 2 different sets of William Lintons in Armagh and My grandmother ive discovered comes from this Welsh Linton through the Murray line. Her great grandmother was Mary Jane Linton who Married David Murray and then we go to William who married a MacNeill to then David Murray

The last record i found was MJs death in 1891

Unfortunately ive no real information on Welsh, but ive asked the family to see
(Ireland) Linton, Lester, Grierson, Tecey, Mussen

Both shayphurray and L.M.P were last online here in 2012.
With luck, though, they may get an email notification of your message replies and will hopefully respond.

Good luck
