« on: Wednesday 13 July 11 18:19 BST (UK) »
Benjamin Hallett and Joan Martin were married on the 26/12/1790 in Wellington Somerset. They had a number of children all in Wellington, Joan died in 1841, Benjamin died in 1845 both in Wellington I have been trying to find details of their life before their Marriage but with no success.

Can anyone help

Hi Could this be Joan? From freereg Wellington St John

Joan Martin bap 29 May 1768 mother Ann a widow

There is an earlier baptism Joan Martin bap 11 Jul 1762 father John, no mother shown though so may be the same family with mother Ann or not!

Shirl

Just had a quick check of baptisms around those dates with father John, there are a few which say mother Mary so it does look like the above are 2 separate baptisms - possibly
North,Noble,Harrison,Seller - North Riding Yorks parishes
Brown,Brooks,Watson - Belper/Duffield Derbys
Hole - Ashover Derbys
Webb, Flavell, Mason - Staffs (mainly Sedgley)
Bevan,Beamond - Chirbury Shropshire
Longridge - Northumberland/Durham
Freeman - Hampshire, Oxfordshire,Sussex
Smith - Derbyshire and Yorkshire
Whitehead - Yorkshire
Morris - St Pancras Yorkshire etc

Thank you Shirl for that information.

From the 1841 census it states that Joan was born about 1771 although this census can be inaccurate with ages.

The 1841 can be 5 years out easily because of the roundings, so hopefully the 1768 baptism might be the one. Good luck with your search.

On the Parish records on Find My Past it has Joan's death for 1841 and states she was born in 1769 so the Baptism that Shirl found in 1768 must be correct, the site recorded Benjamins death but did not state his birth year.

I then looked for a Ann marrying someone with the surname Martin who may have died by the time of Joan's Baptism on the 29/5/1768.

I found two Marriages in Wellington, James Martin to Ann Morrice on the 13/10/1767 and John Martin to Ann Timewell on the 24/12/1767 but also found two deaths although they may not be the bridegrooms in question. I found a burial for James Martin on the 19/10/1767 this is only six days after the Marriage above and a burial for a John Martin on the 17/3/1768.

My question is can someone tell me how I work out if either of these Marriages are correct.

FreeREG has a JAMES Martin Burial 18/10/1767 not the 19th who was the Son of JAMES/MARGARET Martin.

Marriages, St John, Wellington, Somerset;

Benjamin HALLETT/Joan MARTIN you have but maybe not Witnesses;
Mary HILL, Abraham SHORTLAND

John HALLETT, Groom abode sojourner,
Ann BAKER, 06 Sept 1789
Witnesses, Elizabeth HUFORD, Abraham SHORTLAND

William MOGFORD/Ann HELLETT, 22 Jan 1798
Witnesses, Sarah FURZE, William HEWISH
Both sojourners

BENJAMIN Hallett was a Witness to the Marriage of JOHN Hallett, Widower, to Susanna Woodford, 19 Nov 1803. A Mary Hallett was a Witness also.

Not much help with your original query but may fit in somewhere later.

Thank you Trish for the additional information.

It,s just a matter of fitting the pieces together and getting the piece that solves the puzzle.

 :)
Greetings and salutations I am back looking for my family of COLE and Joseph Alfred Cole married a Ann HALLETT from Somerset (Martock).
It would be nice to see if there is any connection?
I would like to come to UK 2015 if it works out to visit and stay in Yeovil, Martock and look up my family over there in UK.
Kind regards
Lyn D Cole :)
