Hi Mag,
Just spotted your post when looking up info about the Benoni Mine.  Elizabeth was my grandaunt and I have been looking into the history of the family that went to South Africa.  I am still in contact with Edgar and Elizabeth's descendent's Barry and Derek Sayer who still live in South A.  I recently found a letter written to my grandmother Elsie Phillips by her sister Flo,  she mentions the mine in passing and the travels that the family were taking around Africa.
Regards
Sian

Hi Sian
Lovely to hear from you!
Since I started to research our family history in 2005 I have put requests on several sites to try to get in touch with Maisie's family.I was in Durban in 1981 and visited Maisie but lost touch afterwards.I guess Barry and Derek are Maisie and Claude's sons.
Could you answer a few questions for me?
Who and where did Florence marry and did she leave for Africa with my grandparents Elizabeth and Edgar. From conversations I had with my late mother, Gwyneth, I was under the impression that once the family left for Africa they didn't come back to Wales until their final return. After checking passenger lists and Mum's birth certificate I now know they made several trips.
Do you have any info on Aunty Alice or our g grandparents Ben and Elizabeth or any family photos?I would much appreciate any information you might have on the Phillips family.
Look forward to hearing from you
Mag

Hello Sian - Hello Mags.

We're sorry to hear about Dulcie, Sian and sorry to have lost contact with our moving around. We need to find a way to get in touch again as this site tries to keep everyone incognito. Are you still at Dulcie's or your old postal address.

Mags, our son sent us a photograph of the family in Durban a few years ago when we were in transit and can't find it or your details with the moves. We presume it was from you?

How do you link with Maisie.

Please let us know.

Tnx

Derek

Users choose their own name, if a member is choosing a username then it likely that they do not want their details published on the internet so I would not advice posting homes addresses etc there is the option to send private messages for confidential information.

Hi Derek
I've pm'd you but I'm not sure you got it.
Maisie and my mother were first cousins. My grandmother Elizabeth Jenkins nee Phillips was a sister to your grandmother Alice. Sian's grandmother Elsie was also their sister so we three are second cousins. My grandparents went out to Africa when Alice and Florence did but returned to Wales for good in 1921. Three of my mother's siblings were born in Benoni during that time but my grandmother came back for my mother's birth in 1913 returning to Benoni when Mam was 6 weeks old.
I've been in touch with Jeremy recently as he's doing the family's history research and if I can help you with any info let me know. I've been researching it for about 17 years and have a tree on Ancestry.co.I'm
Best Wishes
