post 1901 census info
« on: Sunday 01 May 05 14:30 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Is there anyone who can tell me where I would get recent census information from(I mean 1910 - about 1951)?  There is no one alive to answer my questions, and I need to look at these. Thanks

Hi Julie

The census records are closed for 100 years.  The latest one that can be viewed at the moment is the 1901.

Unless all the names you are looking for are really common ones then its usually possible to get started by obtaining copies of birth/marriage certificates for your parents and grandparents and working backwards.

Regards

Caro

Hi Caro,

Thanks for the information.  Does it then follow that 1911 would be out in 2011, or later.  I don't know if I can wait that long!!!  The trouble is, anyone who would know about this is already dead, and one who says she knows, wouldn't know about the relationship I am after(confusing isn't it).  But I can't get the information from anywhere, except censuses.

Cheers anyway

hi julie,
most towns/ cities have yearly street directories that will give the name of the head of each household and usualy thier occupation, these are held by most libraries and could be of some help to you,

best of luck with your search, kali.

Hi Julie

The 1911 census should be available for viewing from January 2012.  From time to time there are rumours that it may be released earlier, but I think that is very unlikely.

Hi

you can try the electral role, again held in the library, war records, newspapers and search your memory for any names mentioned in passing.

I am having the same trouble.

Good luck

Christine.
