Benjamin Thomas & Rachel Ann Michael, West Derby
« on: Monday 18 July 11 18:03 BST (UK) »
Hi! I have found Benjamin Thomas's marriage to Rachel Ann Michael in 1871 (Q3 West Derby, Lancashire volume 8b page 869). I don't have the money to order it right now so i was curious if anyone had any ideas where their marriage could have taken place. They were Welsh and most likely baptists. I've looked online, but most parish transcriptions are Church of England or Catholic. Benjamin died in 1878 (Q3 West Derby, Lancashire volume 8b page 323) and Rachel Ann Michael came to Nashua, New Hampshire, United States (my hometown). I know her parents are John Michael and Rachel Jones, but i'm trying to find his parents. I think they may be Benjamin Thomas & Jane Humphreys, but i need actual proof.

Any ideas, hints, help of any kind would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi

Unfortunately - the West Derby registration district covered a wide area with a great many churches so it would be impossible to pinpoint where they married.

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/west%20derby.html

There is nothing on the IGI or on LancashireBMD

The Lancs OPC website has some marriage for that period but you would have to go through on a church by church basis.  Rachel does not appear on the 1881 census so I can't check where they were living at that time to narrow it down for you

www.lan-opc.org.uk

Select Registers then click on L for Liverpool

Scroll down until the start of the Liverpool Churches (St Michael in the Hamlet)

Check the period covered for marriages and if any include 1871 - select and search

Thank you for responding! Rachel was living in Great Bowden, Leicestershire in 1881 as a widow. In 1871, she was living in:

Civil parish: Everton
Ecclesiastical parish: St Augustine
County/Island: Lancashire
Country:    England
Registration district: West Derby
Sub-registration district: Toxteth Park

Benjamin Thomas(at least whom i am assuming is the right Benjamin Thomas) was living in:

Civil parish: Everton
Ecclesiastical parish: St Chrysostom
County/Island: Lancashire
Country:    England
Registration district: West Derby
Sub-registration district: Toxteth Park

I was hoping them being Welsh and/or Baptist would narrow the churches down, but i'm not familiar with the area. I should probably do more research. I will definitely go through that site though. Thank you again!

Went through all of Liverpool, no luck there sadly. Will keep trying though!
