Hi, all. I make no apologies for plugging my own site because I think it is of use to and compliments rootschat.
I am now 6 weeks into compiling a gravestone index for the 17th, 18th and 19th century stones that can be found in County Durham. It is a long term project, but I have already transcribed 2,000 gravestones and published those transcripts on-line. Accessing the transcripts is completely free and the site is easy to use - just input a surname into the search box and you will receive a list of all the transcripts under that name. Amazingly it works and enables you to link various family stones between the different graveyards.
A long way to go yet, but it might be worth checking in from time to time if you are looking for Durham connections. The site is

Hope they allow me to keep this post here. Regards, David Hamilton.
