Henry Neill Lurgan
« on: Thursday 28 July 11 12:03 BST (UK) »
found the marriage of Sarah Neill 68 John St to John Heaney Edward St on 21 June 1924 at St Peters Lurgan - have him and all belonging to him - need help with her parents Henry Neill and Elizabeth Greer possibly COI. Neills had a great military tradition and its possible he was off with the Army in the census of 1901 and 1911. Did find a Sarah and Elizabeth in Castle Lane in 1911 but Elizabeth is showing as single? Rifleman James Neill killed in Flanders 2nd Dec 1917 is also connected to this address (I have his docs, birth baptism census and military). His father was James who married Eliza Jane McCully and I think James and Henry are brothers. This is my brick wall :(

Hi, have you approx ages for the Neill's at the time of the 1911 Census? Also could not find a Elizabeth or Sarah Neill or any Neill's living at Castle Lane, Lurgan in 1911

There was a Sarah Neill recorded at 38.1 John Street Lurgan, same street as marriage record, in 1911 working in hospital as an Over Seamer? aged 19, if the age fits?

Here's a link to 1901 census entry- the head of household could have given the wrong information (she was illiterate)-

Hi,
The CWGC site gives the father of Rifleman O'Neill as James Henry O'Neill of 68 John Street. Page 2 of the 1911 census lists James H O'Neill as the head of house in John Street.

joemc thanks for responding Elizabeth Neill is in the 1901 Census at 21 Castle Lane but status is single and aged 40 with two daughters one Sarah. I think that might be Sarah in 1911 working in the "Workhouse" and the master of the workhouse I think was O'Neill hope they are not connected or I will never find them - too many ONeills in this part of the country (Lurgan Armagh) This Elizabeth born abt 1871 could be Elizabeth Greer?? and I put Sarah birth 1890's maybe late 1890's with definite marriage as above. Much appreacite your support Ann

kingskerswell thanks for the hint on 1911 census my James Henry Neill is wrongly recorded as James Henry at 1 Taylors Court in 1911 and they were definetly Neill (Rifleman Neill 5259) though maybe they were originally O Neill. The John St entries I think are for the workhouse and that man I think was the Master  of the Workhouse - maybe he is connected? James Henry Neill is missing in 1901 maybe at the Boer War but his wife and family are in Castle Lane. This family have strong connections with John St and Castle Lane and James Henrys wife was buried from 68 John St. Thanks for the help Ann
