Hi MR

The Ellen Hinton born in Lymm 1835 is definitely the daughter of Thomas Hinton, Ellen is my great grandmother x 2. I have, after a 4 year search just confirmed the connection.
she had a  illegitimate son Thomas born 1853 in Lymm. She next appears in Manchester in 1865 when she married Edmund Woodhall, she records her father as Thomas Hinton occupation joiner.
Her son Thomas married Elizabeth Hurst in Burnage Manchester 1877
Sadly  husband Edmund died in 1880 and Ellen spent the last 15 years of her life in the Cholton Union workhouse Manchester she died 26th Dec 1908, she recorded her creed as Wesleyan Methodist on her entry in to the workhouse.

Well would you believe it
After a 4 year search for Ellens parents I found her marriage certificate recording her father as Thomas Hinton, only to discover a few weeks later to find she told a white lie on her marriage certificate !!!!

Ellen is the illegitimate daughter of Sophia Hinton and Joseph Marsland born in 1834  making Thomas Hinton her grandfather, this corresponds with the 51 census

Sophia married Peter Moores at Witton Cheshire in 1836 and settled in Over Cheshire.

Oh well no one said genealogy was going to be easy

Steve

I would be very grateful for help in locating my HINTON family in Ly mm in 1841 or 1851.  All Hinton's there belong to my family, but the direct line is:

Thomas Hinton - b. Ly mm 1791
Miriam Hinton - b. ? c1793

Children:
William Hinton - b. Ly mm 1813 (Married before 1843, wife unknown, children born in Sale.)
John Hinton - b. Ly mm 1828
Samuel Hinton - b. Ly mm 1833

Plus various daughters who may have been married by this time.

Many thanks!

MR

Manchester Rambler,  I am wondering if you could assist me. I am also looking for a Hinton relative in the 1841 census. My relative is my fathers G.G. Grandfather Charles Hinton.

On the 1861 and 1871 census it states he was born in Dorsetshire and on one census states Lyme.    H was married in 1859 in West Dean Gloucestershire to Henrietta Roberts. On the marriage cert it states he was 24 which would but his dob at abt 1835. His father was Thomas Hinton (labourer).

He married in the baptist church, however I do not know if this was his religion of Henrietta's.

Just wondering if your relative Thomas Hinton had a son named Charles that you may have since found.

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Sally

Hello Sally,

I'm afraid I haven't found a Charles Hinton born in Lymm around 1835 - the parish records for Lymm are online at http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/ and there's no Charles there, or on the census returns for Lymm.

I would presume your Charles was born in Lyme Regis, Dorset?

All the Hintons I have been able to connect to my own family are on my website at http://www.angloswiss.net/documents/hinton.html

Sorry Manchster Rambler I just realized that your Thomas Hinton Lymm was for Lymm Cheshire.

I have already ruled out this Hinton Family as not being a connection.

Apologies.
Cheers
