1841/1851 lookup request: HINTON, Lymm
« on: Monday 02 May 05 17:04 BST (UK) »
I would be very grateful for help in locating my HINTON family in Lymm in 1841 or 1851.  All Hintons there belong to my family, but the direct line is:

Thomas Hinton - b. Lymm 1791
Miriam Hinton - b. ? c1793

Children:
William Hinton - b. Lymm 1813 (Married before 1843, wife unknown, children born in Sale.)
John Hinton - b. Lymm 1828
Samuel Hinton - b. Lymm 1833

Plus various daughters who may have been married by this time.

Many thanks!

Peter, you're a star!  Ellen and Joseph are (probably!) illegit grandchildren, although it's not 100% clear.  Now I can try and work out where William, Betty and Josiah fit in...

Thanks again,

Thanks again, Peter - this is the only place of birth I have for Miriam, so it gives me somewhere to look for the marriage and her maiden name.  If you come across William Hinton, b. Lymm 1813, I'd be very interested: I think he migrated to Sale, and had Emma c1842, William c1851 and Hannah c1856, but am looking for confirmation, and a wife's name!

Hi
I have not found your William Hinton in Sale either in 1841 or 1851,or a marriage in Cheshire.
I noticed in 1861 that he is living in Chorlton a widowER and that Hannah 1856 was born in Rhodes (Middleton) Lancashire. Have you tried that area.

I did find what I think may be a marriage of Thomas at Great Budworth St Mary 28/9/1812 I have this marriage on three seperate indexes and none of them are sure of the brides first name (must be a bad signature) they are Lernerial,Semerial and Jameriah Massey.
This is the only marriage for a Thomas in the right time frame.

Hi Peter - thanks again for your info.  I haven't looked for William in Middleton yet - I only picked him up when the 1861 census came online last week, having lost trace of him.

Very interested in the marriage for Thomas - definitely the right area and time frame, but could Lemerial/Semerial/Jameriah be mistranscriptions of Miriam?  I suppose so if the handwriting is bad enough!  I'll see if the IGI has any likely-looking births for a Miriam Massey c1793.

Much appreciated!

Thanks Su - yes, I found the Daresbury Miriam Massey on the IGI, and she looks a good prospect.  She'd be my gggrandmother if it's the right one.  The Lymm Thomas Hinton is definitely mine: father and grandfather both named John, but that's as far as I go, as they weren't at Lymm before that.

I think I'll go with Miriam Massey and do some more digging!
