John Smith!!!!!!
« on: Saturday 30 July 11 15:56 BST (UK) »
Anyone up for a challenge :o re: John Smith

This line is very neglected in my tree ..... wonder why?.... but not only because of the name, but because I was convinced they were not my ancestors, however records say different, so with all the circumstancial evidence in the world it doesn't change record 'facts' , any information I have is many years old.

So here goes............

John Smith I 'think' was born in 1799 Whitwell Rutland

I think his wife was called Gosford Elizabeth ? and they are likely to have married bf 1823

Leicestershire:Chamberlain, Dakin, Wilkinson, Moss, Cook, Welland, Dobson, Roper,Palfreman, Squires, Hames, Goddard, Topliss, Twells,Bacon.
Northamps:Sykes, Harris, Rice,Knowles.

Hi Suz

Thanks.....It certainly looks like the right family.....however Edward Smith their son seems to be missing on both census, he would have been born between Charles and John ( Junr)

Hi Suz

That makes sense and Horne is next to Exton where his wife lived and they married in 1860... I wonder if William in the 1841 is his Uncle

You are a gem and hopefully it will kick start me finding out some more...when I looked at this Smith family line before it just didn't seem to feel like it was my family at all...

Thank you for that Suz  there are so many Smith's in and around that area, now I have to find some proof that there is a connection and how they are related.............

Now one thing I have discovered is Gosford Elizabeth is really Elizabeth Gosford born and baptised in Cherry Orton, Huntingdon, married John Smith in  Orton Waterville, Huntingdon and I have also discovered her siblings and parents...all thanks to your help with the 1851 census information showing her birth place...it still amazes me that one tiny piece of the puzzle can often provide so much information...so thank you
