Ayton,Arthur and Jane, Eaglescliffe
« on: Saturday 30 July 11 22:46 BST (UK) »
Looking for relations/decendents of Arthur and Jane Ellen Ayton (nee Lonsdale died 1934) formally of Eaglescliffe in 1902.
Elsie Ayton (born 1902) married my grandfather Robert Ernest Peat in 1925 and emigrated to New Zealand.
Don't know if she had any brothers, sisters, aunts or uncles.

Hi

If she was born in 1902 - have you checked the 1911 census for details of her siblings?

The 1911 is only available on a pay per view basis

Her parents married in 1889 as per freebmd www.freebmd.org.uk

Looks like Annie died in 1911 after the census. Arthur and Jane Ayton had another boy Walter in 1903 and Lily married a Walter Eden in 1920,no leads on where Lily and Walter went.

They were in Durham to at least 1924 - check freebmd for Eden births with mothers maiden name Ayton.  Cannot post details as children may still be living

Hello
I am a descendent of Arthur and Jane Ellen Ayton. Thier daughter Frances Alice Ayton was my great grandmother. Arthur was the son of James Ayton (often spelt Hayton) and Ann Long, he had 7 brothers and a sister (can supply details if you want them), he was born at Sowerby near Thirsk, North Yorkshire. He married Jane Ellen Lonsdale in 1889 at Middlesbrough. Jane Ellen was the daughter of Richard Lonsdale and Sarah Peat, she was born at Thormanby near Thirsk, she had 2 brothers and a sister, also 2 half brothers and half sister called Ellis. Arthur and Jane Ellen Ayton lived at Alexandria Street in Middlesbrough when they were married, later were at prospect cottage, Eaglescliffe near Yarm, then Mill House, just up the road from there. There children were:
Lilly, Benjamin (who died in WW1), Frances Alice, then 2 daughters both called Annie who both died in infancy, then Elsie and finally Walter. Jane Ellen Ayton died in 1934, me and my mother found her grave at the church in Egglescliffe a few years ago, it was unmarked but now has a small pot with her name on, her 2 baby daughters Annie are in the same churchyard. Arthur went on to re-marry and moved to Melsonby near Richmond, Yorkshire. He died there in 1938. Can supply any other details I have if you wish. We had always been told that Elsie married and went to NewZealand.
Jo Faulkner.
