Help please, confused and confounded!
« on: Wednesday 16 June 04 21:56 BST (UK) »
Hi can anyone help with Henry Moore please..
He is 9 on the Wymondham 1851 census Father is George Taylor, cattle dealer.
Cannot find him after that..

Walter Taylor appears in Yorkshire 1881 census. His marriage cert  (1873) lists him as Walter Taylor Moore, his father as George Taylor, cattle dealer. (Mother was Ann Moore)

Could Henry have changed his name to Walter? Cannot find a birth for Walter or any earlier census listings before 1881.
If I can find Henry on the 1861/1871/1881 census, marriage etc,  that would rule out or confirm him changing his name at a later date to Walter.
In 1861 census Wymondham
George Taylor Head     53     Cattle Dealer
Elizabeth Taylor Wife    34
Elizabeth Taylor Dau     10
Ellen Taylor Dau            8
Walter Taylor Son         4
The Walter on this census is too young to be the Walter in question and Henry would have been about 19.
Yours Confused

Hi,
Here is a starter. There is a Henry W Moore, aged 28, and living (and born) in Framlingham, Suffolk in 1871, with family -  he is a wheelwright.
There is a Henry Moore, in 1871,  aged 27 living in Beccles with family, and born in Wickmore, Norfolk - he is a baker.

Hi,
Yes, I know the problems with finding people. They do not always give the correct place of birth, as sometimes, I think they are not always sure. I could quote Romford, bu I was actually born in Billericay, but I have no recollections of the place as I moved when I was 6 months old.
Just an example, and therefore worth looking at the other posibilities.

It looks like the father remarried - the wife is nearly 20 years younger so I guess your chap at 19 may be living independently by that date.

Have you tried the Norfolk Transcriptions site?  Have you checked out London for this guy?  Many young men were moving down there for work at that time.  (My own ancestors included).

You can always ask Norfolk Records Office to do a search for you.
