Tracing after 2005
« on: Tuesday 02 August 11 11:24 BST (UK) »
Hello

The online resources I have used do not show death records after 2005. Does anyone know if there are any sites that offer such information? I have tried local cemetery sites etc., but they have not been much help (Usually it involves going there, which I can't).

I have tried using Electoral Roll searches but am very inexperienced with them.
I have found a relative (b.1912) living at an address 2002-2007 and her son living there 2002-2008.
After 2008 a different couple live at the address.
I am wondering if the elderly lady has died? Would she still appear on the electoral roll if she was living in a hospital or care home?
Is there a way to determine when someone died if it was after 2005; could I guess that if they stop appearing altogether (even at other addresses) they have died?

Thank you. :)

This is what FindmyPast have said, and I assume it will  apply to Ancestry and all other sites.

The General Register Office was part of the Office of National Statistics, but has recently become part of the Passport Office.
Owing to the view that the Passport Office takes on this information, it has been decided that it should no longer be made public in such a manner.

No further BMD indexes for any date after 2006 will be added to the website as a result of this. This means that the only place you will find such indexes will be at your local registration (sic) office.

Copies of the GRO indexes are now freely available at:
Greater Manchester County Record Office
Birmingham Central Library
Bridgend Reference and Information Library
Plymouth Central Library
as well as The National Archives, Kew NOT "your local registration office".

Hmm .. not sure how you could possibly check "all other addresses" - the person may have moved anywhere in the country.
So the short answer is "no"!

However if she was born 1912 there is a fairly high chance she is no longer with us now, though of course more and more people are living to be 100 nowadays!
Edmonds/Edmunds - mainly Sussex
DeBoo - London
Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Thank you Stan, it's good to know they're still available however I live in Australia, although I do have some friends in London who might go to Kew for me.

That's what I thought as well. On 192.com it shows all addresses for people with the same name - in this case 91 came up. It also gives middle names and age guides, none of which fit in with my lady. It's possible, but I find it unlikely a woman who lived in the same village for 95 years would move... but you never know I guess

Don't forget that commercial sites such as 192.com are only allowed to use the"edited" electoral roll, this is the one that does not show people who have chosen to have their details removed. Legislation was enacted that  resulted in two Electoral Rolls - the full version and the edited version (The Representation of the People (England and Wales)(Amendment) Regulations 2002). The legislation only applies to Electoral Rolls published after 16/11/01. So the last full electoral roll available to the public is from before that date. Also people who are ex-directory will not be available.

Hi

You could try putting an advert in the local paper in area  where she lived, or contact her last known address

Hi

The info on FindMyPast is out of date!

The GRO indices haven't been at Kew since Dec 2009.

In London, you can find a full set with 'unrestricted access' at the London Metropolitan Archives or City of Westminster Archives.

There is also a set at the British Library but you need a redaers ticket to get in.

If you send me a pm with her details, I can check for you when I go this week.
