Apelcross
« on: Wednesday 03 August 11 16:01 BST (UK) »
I've got a relative in the 1911 Census, George N Renwick, who farmed at Canada Farm, Longframlington, and his birthplace is down on the Census as 'Apelcross' - not somewhere in Northumberland that I've ever heard of, so I looked on the net and the only place with that name is Applecross in Wester Ross in Scotland. Not impossible that he was from there of course, but does anyone have any other ideas as to where that place is ?

Hi

In 1901 the family are down as being born Scotland, so I think that Applecross is likely.

I'll take a look on the Scottish site.

I think poor George went unnamed  :-\

Applecross 27 April 1856 <unnamed>  Renwick,  child of Thomas Renwick and Mary Douglas
(confirmed as a male child on the Scottish site and no deaths)

The others ~

14 July 1852 - James Douglas
7 June 1854 - Betty
27 April 1856 - unnamed (George - already given)
21 Nov 1857 - Janet (already given)

(from familysearch site)

Hello,
Are you a descendant of James Renwick [brother of George Renwick, Canada Farm, Longframlington] who was a butcher in South Shields and who I believe had four daughters, two of whom went to work in the USA. George Renwick was my grandfather, but unfortunately died about five years before I was born. There are still two daughters of George Renwick alive [my aunties}
