Where is my Jacob?!!
« on: Thursday 04 August 11 12:17 BST (UK) »
Jacob Silverthorn(e) that was. I have him born abt 1793 (no parents details), married Susannah Gingell in 1816 in Melksham, tried at the Lent Assizes in 1821 at Devizes for theft, had his 'Death' sentence commuted to 2 years hard labour, had six children all born in Melksham the last one born abt 1832, then nothing?

Can anyone shed any light on this mystery or his demise?

Many thanks.

I dont know David ::)
And where is Susannah?

1841 Census
Melksham, Wiltshire
HO107/1182/4/Melksham
Louisa FREEGARD, 20
Geo SILVERTHORN, 15
Eliza Silverthorn, 12
Roda Silverthorn, 9

If you cant find a Census to confirm Jacobs DOB or POB how do you know he was born c 1793, Wiltshire?

Trish :)

He must have died or disappeared 1832-1835 as Susanna Married Isaac NUTT, 1835, Melksham.
(England Marriages Familysearch Pilot)
IGI has a Submitted date 02 March 1835

1841 Census
Melksham, Wiltshire
HO107/
Isaac NUTT, 35
Susan, 40
Ann, 14
Jas, 11
Frances, 10
NK 1week

Looks like Isaac was Married before also given Childrens ages.
The NK 1 week may be Jacob NUTT Reg March 1841 and Death Reg Sept 1841, Westbury&c
1851 Susanna Nutt is born c 1799, Melksham
HO107/1840/124/31

Hi, Trish,

From the IGI Index. That has Jacob's birth at abt 1793 in Melksham.

I do know Susannah married a second time to Issac Nutt on 2/3/1835 so, presumably, she is, with him on the 1841 Census.

The 1841 Census details you give are all of Jacob & Susannah's children apart from John who died in 1839 and Matilda who passed away in 1840 both before the Census took place.

Are saying Louisa was the Head of the household looking after her siblings?

However, we digress as Jacob is still nowhere to be found  -  or is he?

I guess, Trish, Issac was married before as I have two children of his listed, Ann & Francis.

If Jacob had died there should be a death/burial date for him.

Was he deported? Did he emigrate? Who knows?!!

Can't see a death on BMD up to 1881 however familysearch.org has a Siverthorne death in 1836,might be worth following up.

Hi, warncoort,

Should I have gone to 'Specsavers'?!! I can't see the 1836 death.

Could you elucidate further, please?

Hi, warncoort,

Spotted it!! At least a death without a forename. It could well be him.

I'll do further research.

Thank you for your efforts.
