Am I going mad?
« on: Friday 05 August 11 19:34 BST (UK) »
Hi
Hope someone can help. I think I have been dreaming a record that I found  ???
On 18 December 1902 my OH's grandfather Peter Hoey, aged 26 and a miner, sailed to NY from Glasgow on SS Anchoria. He returned on 22 March 1903 with his older brother Edward and three of Edward's children.
So far so good and I have records of both journeys, outward from FindMyPast and back again from A.......y
But - about 18 months ago I found a different record for the outward journey which definitely said how much money he was travelling with ( about £100 if we remember rightly)
Usually I am very good about documenting my sources and keeping copies but I can't find this record again, my OH says he remembers me telling him about the money - have I dreamt it up or does such a record exist and where would I find it please?

Have you looked at BOTH pages of the Ellis Island manifest?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi
He's not showing up on Ellis Island manifest, either by name or on Anchoria passenger records.  The FindMyPast record says the Anchoria left Glasgow on 18/12/1902 with an estimated 37 day voyage so I would expect it to arrive in NY in January 1903 or at the latest early February but the Anchoria is not showing on Ellis Island records for those dates.

There is on EI a record for the Anchoria, sailed 13 December 1902, arrived 28 December 1902. I suspect this might be the same ship that FindMyPast has as "18th" (The next sailing listed is in January, arrives February).

You can use the Steve Morse forms to help look for him, perhaps he's just badly mistranscribed and a scroll through the original manifest might turn him up:
