Sarah Acford and William Brown Carpenter

Does anyone have these people in their Tree please?

They married  09/03/1857  St John's Parish Church, Cardiff
Both are of age. Sarah Acfords father is John Acford a Labourer.

The words:Ceremonies of the Established Church have been crossed out, and Church of England have been entered 

We are trying to work out which John Acford and which Sarah Acford, but without ages, and with so many Acfords having the same name it's an impossible task.

Most Acfords originated in Appledore, Devon

  I think it maybe a spelling variation..... I found this

  Sarah daughter of Phoebe Hackford bapt 15 May 1836. Lugwardine Herefordshire.

 Sarah is constant at placing birth in Herefordshire.

(son William B was also called William Brown Carpenter -and he married a Sarah -but he died before his father)
 In later census Sarah has the middle initial "A"
in 1891 she is calling herself Sarah Acford Carpenter age 56 b. Herefordshire living in Monmouthshire

so it looks like we may have correct Sarah

now to find her pre marriage??

Many thanks for your help, I did notice the A all of a sudden appearing in her name, but hadn't found the 1891 information including Acford as middle name.

Sarah Acford & William Brown Carpenter are my Great Grandparents. They are the parents of my paternal Grandfather. When clearing my mothers house last year I found my Grandfathers birth certificate. The mother was listed as Sarah Acford Carpenter formerly Morten. I looked for her prior to her marriage but couldn't find her. I eventually sent for their marriage certificate and was surprised to find no reference to Morten at all. As you have said she is consistent in giving Lugwarden Herefordshire as her place of birth but I would like to find out more. We have a very old photo which hung in my grandparents house and my cousins say they were told they were all Carpenters. We believe the elderly couple in the middle of the photo are William & Sarah Carpenter

I have contacted  a friend who has more knowledge of the Acfords as my own Tree joins further down the line.....it was on her behalf that I first posted this query.
She is very interested in sharing information and one of us will get back to you,
as soon as she has gone through her files to see what she has about them.
