1841/51 Wigton lookup please
« on: Tuesday 03 May 05 11:01 BST (UK) »
The 1851 online index has this family in Wigton

DENWOOD Jonathan (19) Mary (16) Mary (51) Robt (10) [2432 Fols 171-267] in Wigton.  Can anyone add some details please?  Can they be found in 1841?

The Head (Jonathan 1796 Cockermouth) is missing.  I see there is a John (55) in Cockermouth - was he a "visitor" there or someone totally different?

A previously unknown daughter turns up in 1861 - Margaret 29 born Carlisle.  There is a Margaret 19 in Cockermouth in 1851 - was she living with her family, visiting or working as a servant there?

Thanks for any answers.

Thanks for that Ange!  I seem to have some inconsistencies  ;) with my Denwoods, so every little helps.

It would be best to get someone to find the 1851 entry you have found on the index, then see where Robert was born. Then I'll try looking there.

Yes, you're right of course.  The only baptism I have is for Jonathan 1832 Wigton.  I guess it's possible that the Mary you found was the right one.  Perhaps Jonathan (Snr) had died around 1841 (hence he wasn't there in 1851) and the family was temporarily split up.  Denwood Central seems to have been Cockermouth.
