Hay Derbyshire?
« on: Tuesday 09 August 11 17:20 BST (UK) »
I thought my George Henry Naylor was born in Flagg but on the 91 Lancs census he is stated as born Hay Derbyshire.
Free BMD lists him as born 3rd quarter 1877 Bakewell and I thought this was right, but now with this census info and the fact that there is a George Henry listed in the 1st quarter 1877 Derby im not sure.
Is there a Hay in Derbyshire or do you think it may be Hayfield?

Looking at the original on FindMyPast, what is written is Flag (with the F backwards as many people used to write it).  FindMyPast has transcribed it as Flagg, but I can see why someone who didn't know the area might think it was Hay.

Awesome! Thank you so much!
I thought I was going to have a big problem figuring out which one was correct. The family is missing from the 81 census so I couldnt confirm with that.
You just saved me a lot of work!
Thanks again
Dawn
