MARGARET DUKE
« on: Tuesday 25 May 10 07:13 BST (UK) »
 ::) ::) ::)

Hope someone may be able to help me. I have been trying so hard to trace my ancestors.

Have found on the LDS site Margaret Duke B1811 who married Thomas Hunt in Anna, CAVAN, Ireland 28 August 1850. Parent of Margaret Duke listed as James Elliot  ??? ???  I am almost positive this is my ggg grandmother as my grandmother's name was Elizabeth-Duke Robertson Campbell.

I have a DC1874 for Margaret Hunt who died in Glasgow Widow 1st of William Hamilton dec (44th Regiment of Foot) and  widow 2nd of Thomas Hunt (Engineer) Parents listed as James Elliot (shoemaker) and Catherine nee Reilly.

My great great grandmother Mary Ann HUNT according to IGI was born 1844-1846 in Ireland - Parents Margaret Elliot and Thomas Hunt  ::)
Mary Ann married William Buchanan 1863 in Glasgow and I have followed them through all the census (if it's my right  ??? family.)
On one of the census states Mary Ann as born in Belturbet but have not been able to find anything about her to confirm this.

I also have a DC1905 for Mary Ann Hunt/Buchanan which states Parents as Thomas Henry Hunt (Chelsea Pension dec) and Margaret Hunt nee DUKE

 ;) ;) ;)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't quite figure out everything in your post so could you please clarify a few things.
1) Margaret DUKE daughter of James ELLIOT?
2) If these records all connect- Margaret DUKE m.1850 Thomas HUNT and their daughter Mary Ann HUNT (daughter of Thomas HUNT and Margaret ELLIOT?) born 1844/46 (4-6 years before parents married) married 1853?

The IGI record that you are using for Mary Ann Hunt's birth/marriage is submitted- and it actually gives the surname as Hunt or Hunter.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for your reply.  :) :) :)

Margaret Duke (Ireland Marriages 1619-1898 FamilySearch)  married Thomas Hunt 1850 Cavan. Father James ELLIOT

Margaret's age is 39 at 1850. ???

::)  I wonder if she was married to a DUKE 1st, then 2nd a HAMILTON and her 3rd marriage maybe to HUNT  :o :o :o

:)  I've been able to find Mary ann Hunt's marriage certificate 1863 to William Buchanan and have worked backwards from there.

:)  Their marriage in Glasgow 1863 states Mary Ann's parents Thomas Hunt (Engine Keeper)  and Margaret Hunt nee ELLIOT.

:)  I also have a DC1856 for a Thomas Henry Hunt 1856 aged 5 years. Parents Thomas Hunt (Chelsea Pensioner) and Margaret nee ELLIOT.

;D  Spent a small fortune on Scotlands People.

I will probably freak out if I am on the wrong trail  :-[ :-[ :-[

Many thanks Kay (Australia)

Belturbet, Cavan birth
« Reply #4 on: Wednesday 10 August 11 12:58 BST (UK) »
 :)

Back again,

I now think I have discovered that my Mary Ann HUNT born 1844-1846 is actually Mary Ann DUKE!!! I have no idea of the father's name and have checked FamilySearch

Her mother I now realize  probably married 3 times.  ::) ::)   and for whatever reason her children used the name of HUNT when Margaret married Thomas HUNT in 1850. I have managed to follow the census 1861, 1871 in Glasgow where they migrated to sometime after their marriage.

Can anyone suggest how I may find the birth of Mary Ann Duke? According to the census I have stated she was born in Belturbet.

Any ideas is greatly appreciated.  ;)

Cheers Kay
