I have been looking at James Doull born 1852 who married Margaret Taylor 1874, Watton. On James death certificate his wifes name was Barbara Taylor, dod May 28 1900, could this be a mistake on the person who registered the death.

No, I have searched s/p website, and found just the 1 marriage.

Do you have him on any census with Margaret?

There is this 1891 entry but his birthyear is 1854 and surname is indexed as Down.  I only have access to the transcription so cannot check the image for accuracy

I have looked at the census returns from 1851, I have found James on the 1851 aged 10 months which adds up to the one I have. His parent were Alexander Doull 33, Eliza 35, born Watton, Caithness and his siblings were Maryanne 9, George 6, Joan 3. I can't find James and Margaret on any of them, looking at all of Scotland. James died 1900 Wick, which would suggest they lived around that area.

I have found James on the 1851 aged 10 months

So that would make his birthyear 1850 - not 1852

Does the 1874 marriage cert show Margaret's father as Angus?  If so - then the 1891 entry appears to be the right one

I have Margaret's dod which is March 30 1880, Thurso, her parents were William Taylor and Janet Campbell. She was 27 when she died. I have looked for her birth, and did a search on all of the Taylors born between 1840 and 1851 and found nothing. Found her parents marriage which was 16/1/1852, Latheron. I have looked after the date her parents were married and nothing.
