Census info?

Is there any census info available to search for SA?

I am back to looking into my relative who left England for Durban in 1890.  Sometime ago I managed to get a couple of death notices which gave me details of children/grandchildren born there (he married in England and his wife died before him but never found a death notice for her) and recently found one of them came to Aberdeen in 1954.  It says country of permanent residence Scotland on the passenger list but reading the small print it says this could be for a year or more so he may have returned. 

I would dearly love to find out more about the family over there.  I have looked up the names in the index and found a few entries that seem to relate to divorces but any other avenues open to me to search I would love to know.

To my surprise I found there is an ancestry24 site, didn't think there was anything like that available.  I have searched and found a few names but of course I can't see the records themselves without a subscription.

I'm looking for the surname Hinchliffe primarily.  Richard Charles was one of the names that came up and I know he is one of mine.

Census info would be even better but I haven't found a sniff of that being an option.
