Baptism - Thomas JOHNSON - Stanton All Saints
« on: Tuesday 16 August 11 14:58 BST (UK) »
I've found a reference on the web to the christening of a Thomas Johnson on 8th July 1838 at Stanton, All Saints. I'd be truly grateful if sks could look up the entry for me (fiche/film at Ipswich branch of Suffolk RO?) and confirm in particular the names of his parents. I guess I ought to mention that I haven't convincingly located his birth in BMD, so I'm hoping the PRs will shed light on his parentage.
Many thanks
Birtle

Thank you so very much for taking the trouble to do this lookup, Anne.
Not that it gets me much further in some respects!  :( Susan - aka Susannah - Johnson, dtr of William Johnson (labourer) went on to marry William Cobbold of Rattlesden in 1848, and Thomas Johnson is a 'son' in their 1851 household, also as Thomas P Johnson, 'step-son', in their 1861 household. I'd been hoping that I might track down her earlier history through Thomas, as she's proving v elusive, being b in Newcastle on Tyne in abt 1808 according to 1851 etc . I can't find her + Thomas together in 1841, but there is a Thomas Johnson of appropriate age living then in a William Johnson's household in Stanton, Street. As for Susan(nah) herself, in 1841 she may be with sister? Lydia (regarding whom, see WJ's 1851 household) as servants in a household in Blo Norton, Norfolk.
My problem is, William J is shown to have been born in Suffolk, as was dtr Lydia in 1812; and he seems possibly to have married locally as well. So I wonder just how to reconcile his data with Susannah's Northumbrian POB...
Ah well, looks like that little conundrum will have to wait until another time. But thanks again for that ve enlightening lookup.
