Daisy WARREN b 6 Apr 1893 Mddx, d 1984 Redbridge Essex
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 09:52 BST (UK) »
I am hoping someone can help me with info on this lady, who was my great aunt. I'm sure this is the lady I am looking for - she was a Nurse and at one time was supposedly Matron at C? Hospital. Is there an online cemetery for this area where I could do a search, or can anyone suggest where to look? Very grateful for any suggestions.
Regards
Jan

Hi Jan

Had a look for you re Daisy.  I presume she never was married and this
is her surname all her life??
The info I have found is she was born on the 6th April 1893 in the
registration district of Marylebone, Middlesex area.
She died aged 90 years in January 1984 in the Redbridge Registration area.
The Redbridge registration district covers a few other towns which
include Woodford, Ilford, and Redbridge all records are now at Redbridge.
The death registration number was Volume 14 page 1651. Someone might
be able to look up this death if they are in the Redbridge area for you.
There may also be some newspaper articles about her if she was a Matron.
Apart from the cemetary she might be in was there any other information
you required like parents etc or have you already got them? I did find her,
I think on the 1901 census if you require the whole family let me know

Hello Sandy
Yes, basically all I have about her is her date of birth and death (don't have the exact date though) I believe she never married, and was a career matron. I know she inspired my mother to become a nurse. I think she was a matron at Colchester Hospital, but don't know if it was the Military Hospital or a General Hospital. My mother served in the QAMINS during WW2, so it could have been the Military Hospital. I have her on the 1901 census, and also 1911 when she was still living at home in Edmonton - her father died 1911 and mother 1913, so I expect they all moved after that.
Do you know if there are newspapers for that area on line?
Regards

Hi

The information and links to cemeteries in the London borough of Redbridge are in the Essex burial guide at the top of the Rootschat Essex boards. You would have to send for her death certificate - you can't look death registrations up. To search both cemeteries and local newspapers for a death notice you really need an exact date of death and also place of death for newspapers in particular, to know which would be most useful to ask for a search in.

Hello kiwicatz

I have a Daisy Warren in my tree, whose birth was registered in the June Qtr of 1893 although in Croydon not Middlesex.  She was the youngest daughter of William James Warren ( known as James ).  I believe my Daisy also became a nurse.  Any connection?

Hi Wombat
Oh I so wish!! My Daisy's parents were definitely Fred and Alice Warren, everything I have about her after 1911 is speculation, and my mother's fairly unreliable memory.
Sorry!
