Legal Records
« on: Wednesday 17 August 11 10:02 BST (UK) »
Hi.

I am trying to trace a bigamist that was convicted in c1919. We know some of his girl friends and his first wife but not the second.

Would any of the newspapers of the day record trials at say the "Old Bailey" where the trial was most probably conducted as he lived in and around Lambeth. Also where can I find details of the actual trial?

Can you help

Dave

Welcome to RootsChat
A report could be in "The Times" digital archive, which is available online to members of certain libraries. If you cannot access it through your library, give his name and someone could have a look for you.

Hi Dave, welcome to Roots Chat  :)

The records for the trials at the Old Bailey are available online, but alas only up to 1913.

Post-1913, it gets a little more tricky..... see http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/criminals-18th-20th-centuries.htm

It might be worth checking at the libraries local to where the perpetrator came from - they may have some local newspapers in their archives.

RIP 1949-10th January 2013

Best Wishes,  Nick.
