Silver War Badge
« on: Thursday 18 August 11 11:35 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any idea of when the silver war badge changed from open work to solid or vica versa. There are two different types in the Suffolk Regiment Museum & I would like to know which would have been awarded to my gt uncle in 1916.

2 types of Silver War Badge for WW1 originally issued 16-17 and continued to 1920..They were both open in design

The WW2 Kings badge was same sort of idea but un-numbered and solid "For Loyal Service" on it

Thanks Ady,
I have also just learnt that the 'solid' badges were issued in WW2. My gt uncle was definitely invalided out losing fingers and having chest & face injuries.

Does anyone have any photo's they could pm to me, it would be good to be able to show them to the suffolk reg museum & compare the different badges to those they hold.

Thank you so much, the 2 pictures match the badges in the museum. So one for each war. I can pass that news on to them.
