Burial look up - Thaxted
« on: Friday 19 August 11 12:43 BST (UK) »
If someone can be so kind as to look up a burial for me for St John The Baptist Church in Thaxted?

Nora Bessie Johnson, died 8 May 1939.  She is buried in the church yard annex.
I would like to know if there was a child buried with her, or a burial for a Johnson child about the same time please?  I just can't get down to Essex and the scans aren't that up to date on SEAX.

many thanks

Lisa

There does not appear to be a Johnson death in the records of a child registered in Dunmow, the same reg district as Nora B W Johnson 1939
My NBI does not list Thaxted Baptist church

Hi

They may be shortly placed on the internet if Essex Record Office hold the registers

see the information on this topic

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,543364.0.html

There is no indication in the SEAX catalogue itself that they do hold them for this later time period though.

not Ancestors - checked both

The present parish burial ground seems to be managed by the church and not the local parish council - from the photograph (and information on the parish council website) it is obviously still currently in use.

It might be worth finding out from Essex Record Office whether they do hold the registers otherwise you will need to contact the church.

Norah's death registration is the only one for Johnson in Dunmow registration district  for 1939. If the child had the same surname then if it doesn't appear in the death registration and it existed, then it either didn't die or was born stillborn. The stillborn register is closed and does not appear online. Norah's actual death certificate may give information that would indicate her death was related to childbirth.

Nora B W Holtaway married Dunmow 1934 to George Johnson

1 Child birth registered with mother's maiden name of Holtaway June qtr 1939, same qtr as Nora's death in Dunmow reg dist

I cannot find a death for the child and  not a marriage so far in the same area

I am sure if they was registered then the child was born alive, this may well be the child you are after unless there was a child stillborn  the previous year

hi LM
that's exactly what I have.  The child is still living and didn't get married until much, much later!

Basically there is a story of "another child who died", and I think that it could have been a twin to the birth you found, but if it was still born then it wouldn't be registered in the same way.  So I thought if someone could see the church records as we know where Nora is buried, then there could be something written in the records to tell us.

thanks

If I get to the ERO I will look it up for you but I am not sure when as yet, school holidays and I have 2 grandchildren to look after 2 days a week, takes a chunk out of a week but I don't mind as long as they are happy, so I will put you on my list unless someone else gets there first

Hi

As I said in an earlier post there doesn't seem any indication that Essex Record Office hold these later burial registers from Thaxted church. An email to Essex Record Office would confirm whether they do or don't.
