RAF Pilot Officer died Rome 1975.
« on: Saturday 20 August 11 13:12 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find more  information  (especially whether or not,  he produced children) on an ancestor who joined the RAF on 18/3/1918, having been in the Royal Sussex Regiment prior to that.
I have found him living in Cairo at the RAF base at the time of his marriage which was at  the British Consulate, in 1920 and witnessed by AB Geary, HBM Consul). His occupation given as Clerk GHQ. He was also a Pilot Officer.
He married Adelaide Alma Irene Smyrnagessian.
I don't know how long he stayed in Egypt for.

He died in 1975 in Rome.
The Entry of Death includes the following information:

Death within the district of the British Consul at Rome.
Died, 11 Dec 1975 at Clinica Latina, Via Vulci 16, Rome.
William Henry Hopper. 77 years. Retired. Born Lewes, Sussex on 14 Jul 1897.
Residence at time of death Via Paolo Orlando, 25 Ostia Lido, Rome.
Signature and residence of informant.. Application from R Morbidelli Funeral Director of Soc. SIAF arl., Via Tuscolona 896 Rome. Local death certificate produced.
Registered 23 Jan 1975.
Signature of consular officer .. Jean C Woolrich, British Vice Consul.

I am hoping someone may see some clues within this information that could point me in the right direction. The certificate gives no 'cause of death' or nearest relative, which is a shame.
What could Soc. SIAF arl.  be? Was there a residence in Rome for retired RAF Officers?

I understand that the MOD may have records available, but I believe they charge around £30 for it.

Many thanks

If he's an ancestor then he must have had at least one child- or are you just not sure if there are any children from the 1920 marriage?

I'm sure someone here will be able to confirm who, if any family member, might be able to request service records.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks.
It gets a little complicated!
William Henry Hopper was a half brother of my Grandfather.
Although we know who the father was, my grandfather's father was unnamed on the birth certificate.
My grandfather being named Cecil Harry Hopper Wiseman (wiseman after his mother).
It makes obtaining information a bit difficult as there is no written evidence.
